Overview

A sphere is the hardest canvas in jewelry: every line you draw on it curves away in two directions at once, so a pattern that looks even on paper warps the moment it wraps. Eternal Orbits leans into exactly that, ringing a polished ball with gem-set bands that circle it like planetary rails. In this project you’ll flow those orbits onto the sphere, fuse it to a parametric shank, remesh the whole thing to clean SubD, then set the rails with diamonds and hollow the body until it wears as lightly as it looks.

Design the Eternal Orbits ring using RhinoArtisan.

In this tutorial you will learn how to:

• Cut a 16.4 mm sphere with the ring curve, map a circle onto its surface with Flow Along Surface, and web the orbital pattern with alternating 2 mm and 0.6 mm Offset Curve on Surface passes.

• Union a parametric Classic shank into the sphere and convert the whole body to clean SubD with Quad Remesh under X and Y symmetry.

• Split the face into 0.4 mm orbital bands, reshape the shank with Soft Transform, and cut the ring opening with Boolean Difference.

• Rail the orbits with 1.65 mm Gems on Curve, add prongs and cutters, and fill the gaps between bands with Pave.

• Hollow the body with a 14.20 mm boolean sphere and lighten the inner shank with Cage Edit before the final boolean cuts.

By the end of this project, you’ll have the skills to sculpt a gem-set orbital ring around a sphere from scratch.
