Overview

A scatter setting looks like a handful of diamonds tossed across the finger and frozen mid-sparkle — random by design, yet every stone has to touch its neighbor to hold together. The trick is to compose that apparent randomness flat, over a 2D reference image, where you can judge the whole cluster at once. In this project you’ll build a scatter ring around a half-carat cushion, set its constellation of rounds, a baguette and a marquise in custom baskets, then wrap the flat layout around the finger without deforming a single stone.

In this tutorial you will learn how to:

• Compose the stone cluster flat in Diamond Studio, sizing each round, baguette and marquise against a locked 2D reference image around a 0.50 ct cushion.

• Secure the side stones with a delicate 0.70 mm Basket and the cushion with a 4.50 mm Claw basket, aligning prongs so every element touches.

• Measure the ring curve, build matched reference lines, and wrap the cluster around the finger with Quick Flow using the stones as Rigid Objects.

• Add a Classic shank with Preset 037 and match the inner surface to the finger with Cut by Ring Size.

By the end of this project, you’ll have the skills to compose and model a scatter ring from scratch.
