Technical Documentation

A design nobody can read is a design nobody can make. This is the paperwork side of RhinoArtisan: the report sheet a client signs off, the gem and metal lists the setter and the caster work from, the cost breakdown, and the dimensioned drawing the bench needs.

You will find these commands in the ribbon’s Drafting tab. The list follows it top to bottom, group by group.

Report and layout

The sheet itself, and what goes on it.

• Report — the report panel: the whole document in one place.
• Layout — the page the drawing is composed on.
• Detail — a viewport on that page, each one showing the model from its own angle and scale.
• Add Logo — your logo on the sheet.
• Text — annotation text.

Gem maps

A drawing of where every stone goes, which is what a setter actually needs.

• Gems Map — the map for the whole piece.
• Gems Map by Selection — the same for the stones you pick.

Gem lists

The same information as a table, on the sheet or in a spreadsheet.

• Gem List — every stone in the model, by size and quantity.
  • Gems List by Selection — only what you select, optionally grouped, from the submenu.
• Gems List to Excel — the same table as a spreadsheet.
  • Gems List to Excel by Selection — the selection-based variants, from the submenu.

Metal lists and templates

• Metals List — the metals in the piece and how much of each.
• Metals List by Selection — the same for what you pick.
• Report Templates — open and save a report layout so the next piece starts from it.

Breakdowns

What the piece is made of and what that costs, split by kind. These read the setup in Breakdown Settings.

Dimensions

Generate a full set at once, or place them one at a time. The individual dimension commands are Rhino’s, gathered here.

• Generate Dimensions — a complete dimensioned drawing in one pass.
• Dimensions — the individual types: linear, horizontal, vertical, aligned, rotated, angle, radial, diameter, centre mark, curve length and volume.
• Dimensions by Box — the bounding box of the piece, dimensioned.
• Dimensions for Ring — the measurements a ring is judged by.
• Dimensions for Bangle — the same for a bangle.
• Reduce and Restore Dimensions — shrink the dimensions to declutter a crowded drawing, and put them back.

Drawing and sections

Turning the model into line work.

• Hatch — fill a closed region with a pattern.
• Set Line Type — dashed, dotted, centre lines.
• Make 2D — flatten the model into 2D curves from the current view.
• Annotate Dot — a numbered dot that stays readable at any zoom.
• Clipping Sections — cut the model with a plane to show what is inside.
• Extract Line Type Segments — turn a dashed line into its individual segments.
